Java Kitchen@Kelapa Gading Bulevar
Java Kitchen has many outlets in Jakarta and apparently in Singapore as well (they have their own site at: http://javakitchenresto.blogspot.com), and the one outlet we visited was located in Kelapa Gading Boulevard.
Visually, the restaurant overall design helped attracted potential customer - just like me. The one in Kelapa Gading was quite small - it’s on the 1st floor of a “ruko” - and has a nice layout. One thing I like is on the wall side of the restaurant - next to the tables - they’ve built some kind of open air cupboard to put all the food utensil, sauces, and tissue. On ordinary restaurant, all of those items usually are put in the middle of the table.
For the menu, we tried Nasi Langgi, with melon juice and tomato juice as drink. Most of their menus are very Javanese centric type of food (soto ayam kampung, nasi goreng jawa, sop buntut, etc…) and they have plenty of “es” for dessert (es campur, es kopyor, etc…).
Price wise, Java Kitchen seemed on the “high” side, but then we haven’t see, smell, and taste the food ourselves. We didn’t wait long for the drinks to arrive, and then came the nasi langgi. Nice presentation, banana leaf as base on a plate, with the rice and lauk-pauk assortments around it. The taste is as good as the look, so then it’s kinda justified the price we pay. On the melon juice they put this red jelly, which at first I thought it was rubber bracelet. ^_^
Another thing that I liked upon first entering the restaurant was the music that was played - Indonesian oldies song - it’s kinda match the food atmosphere. Unfortunately, the manager then decided to turn off the music and turned on the TV, watching all those horrible noon news. Overall, this place is likeable, the food is good just a bit high on the price side - justified by its taste.
